Annex G
The comparison table now includes EdDSA
Annex G compares the certificate-based elliptic curve mechanisms, and the amendment updates it so that EdDSA is in the comparison. The table is the one a design note cites when it chooses a mechanism on size or computation, so an unchanged table is a stale citation.
- What it asks
- Replace any comparison table copied from an earlier edition, and record the criteria your choice actually used. Where the choice was made on signature size, key size or computation, cite the table row and the edition, and note that the comparison is informative rather than a requirement.
- What the amendment does
- Updates Annex G. So the annex keeps its base text and gains this material, which a copy of the base annex will not have.
- Who it binds
- The architect who chose the mechanism and the author of the design note.
- Evidence an auditor samples
- The design note, with the comparison row and the edition it cites (architecture)
- The benchmark or measurement behind any performance claim (test report)
- The review that accepted the choice (risk register)
- The test you can run
- Open the design note and the table side by side. If the note cites a row that does not exist in the current edition, the citation is stale.
- Common failures
- The note cites a comparison from a vendor deck rather than the standard.
- A performance claim is repeated without a measurement.
- How to close it
- A comparison informs a choice; it does not make it. Record the criteria, the measurement and the date, and cite the table as informative so that a later reader knows which part is requirement and which part is guidance. The artefact that opens the work is the design note, with the comparison row and the edition it cites; the row is only closed when that artefact is dated and has a person against it.
- Where it sits against the base standard
- The annex exists in the base standard and the amendment extends it. A copy of the base annex is not the current annex, so the citation must name the amendment as well as the edition.
